I am Silviu Virlan and I have been working with Dynamics NAV and Business Central for more than 12 years, only on this product. Most of that time I spent as a developer and consultant: implementing BC, fixing implementations that did not go as planned, and making slow systems faster. My clients were in manufacturing, distribution, financial services and professional services.

C/AL was my first language in this world. Now it is AL.

My company, SVirlan.com LLC (dba SureHoofERP), is a registered Microsoft partner. I am also a former Microsoft MVP. Microsoft gave me the MVP award a few times for my work in the Business Central community.

Why I write

I started this blog in 2016 to keep notes of what I was learning. When I figure out something in BC, I write it down here, first for myself and then for anyone who runs into the same issue.

The blog led to books. Beyond the Ledgers is for business users: how to get more out of your BC data with the built-in analytics, Excel and AI tools like ChatGPT. The MB-820 Exam Cram series is for developers preparing for the Microsoft certification. Each book covers one topic: tables, pages, reports, cloud migration, the admin API, Outlook and Teams integration, and a few more. They are all on the books page.

Sometimes I speak at Directions, DynamicsCon, Community Summit and DUG regional events.

Consulting

For client work I operate through SureHoofERP.com. Usually I get called for:

• a BC implementation that does not deliver what was promised
• integrations that break too often
• performance issues and locking
• AL development
• migrations
• users who went back to Excel because BC was not giving them what they needed

You work directly with me. There are no account managers in between.
